Dr. Sucharita Datta is perhaps the most outstanding Kathak dancer of the present generation of youngsters coming up fast among the new genre of boys and girls taking up dance as their career. Herself being a brilliant academic student of general education Sucharita took to Dance as her subject after passing school examination with brilliant results.
She excels in both the dance forms namely, Kathak and Bharatnatyam and, especially, in both the Gharanas of Kathak - Lucknow as well as Jaipur.
Sucharita is an ‘A’ grade Kathak artiste of Doordarshan, empanelled artiste of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (I.C.C.R),Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre(E.Z.C.C), holder of National Scholarship , Junior fellowship by (C.C.R.T) Govt of India,(Gold Medalist) in the subject Dance in Pre-Degree,Dance honours in B.A as well as in M.A , followed by Doctorate(Ph.d)degree in the subject Dance from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. She is the recipient of ‘Singar Mani’bykalkikalakarSammelan, Mumbai. Her performance in the role of Krishna in GeetGovindam by Pt. Birju Maharaj was most outstanding.
Sucharita is currently busy fulltime with her own performances, seminars, lecture- demonstrations, workshops, teaching and rehearsing choreography with the students of Nritya Dhrupadi (own organization) as well as she is a regular examiner of Dance department of Rabindra Bharati University and others.
